Founder’s Story

A passion for cricket. A mission to make practice real.

Pitch A Products was founded by Gerard Abood, an international cricket umpire with over 45 years of involvement in the game — as a player, coach, and official. Throughout his career, Gerard noticed a common issue across clubs, schools, and professional teams: most training equipment didn’t reflect real match conditions.

He saw players practicing in restrictive, outdated setups that didn’t build confidence or transfer well to match-day performance. That’s where the idea for Pitch A Products began — to create tools that feel like the game, not just training.

From a backyard concept to match-tested gear

What started as sketches in the garage soon became working prototypes, tested with players at various levels. With constant refinement and feedback from coaches and athletes, Gerard developed tools that deliver true-to-life bounce, deflection, and space — just like you’d experience on the field.

Today, Pitch A Products offers purpose-built equipment like Pitch A Net and Pitch A Slip, trusted by coaches, clubs, and schools across Australia.

The Pitch A Net has been a fantastic addition for our cricket program at Barker College. With no turf nets to utilise, and limited field space shared between many different summer sports, the Pitch A Net has allowed training to go ahead on our turf centre wickets.

The Pitch A Net has proved to be incredibly easy to move across the field and set up at the centre wicket, requiring only two people and less than five minutes. On top of being easy to set up, it’s design means that bowlers, batters and even wicket-keepers are kept safe with no rebounding balls at high speeds.

I would highly recommend the Pitch A Net as a low maintenance, easy to use and cricketer friendly option for any groups looking to utilise their turf centre wickets for practice.
